In this study, semi-structured interviews were carried out to twenty high school students to clarify how they use LINE, an IM application which is nowadays extremely common among teenagers in Japan. As the result, we found three points. Firstly, most of the students use LINE to communicate with close friends. However, they were tired of communicating with friends because they had to keep responding to messages from their friends to keep good relationships. Secondly, some students had episodes to get to know strangers on LINE. Although they could make new friends and acquaintances through it, some of them got into troubles to realize online dating. Thirdly, most students mentioned its usefulness to communicate with others rapidly and smoothly. On the other hand, some of them sent messages without caring about others and had troubles because of messages.
