This study identified the characteristics of crowdfunding project proponents and their implications in terms of community activation by using two sets of data. The first consisted of survey data; respondents with experience using crowdfunding (CF) systems were recruited from a large online survey pool of a Japanese research company. The objective of the survey was to investigate the behavior of Japanese CF proponents. The second set of data was obtained via in-depth interviews with the proponents. The analysis examined the multifaceted characteristics of CF proponents, which remain unclear despite previous studies on the subject.
