We applied complex X-ray fluorescence holography to investigate the atomic structure of a decagonal quasicrystal. The technique provides element-specific, three-dimensional real-space reconstructions of local environments. Our analysis focused on the nearest-neighbor shell around the Co atoms, which is primarily an Al site. The experimental data revealed small deviations in the real-space distributions. These are largely – but not fully – explained by the image cancellation effect, in which the superposition of real and imaginary components suppresses intensity at specific energy-distance conditions. Despite these limitations, the results confirm the low Ni content at nearest-neighbor sites and demonstrate the future potential of complex X-ray fluorescence holography for probing chemical short-range order in complex crystals.
