For a highly accurate pipe length measurement using an acoustic sensor, data window broadening is considered. The data window is first divided into several segments where attenuation of the acoustic pressure is negligible. Next, for each segment, the stationary wave in the pipe is modeled as a linear dynamic system using the corresponding optimal modes. Thereafter, using a bank of Kalman filters, Bayesian rule and search method, the pipe length is accurately measured on-line.
