Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to consider “the sociology of bioethics” developing by R. C. Fox. Sociologists have the self-definition that as an empirical science sociological study deals with description. Bioethics, however, is a field so rife with values. Therefore, the sociology of bioethics has difficulty with the relationships between facts and values. The sociology of bioethics, the project developing by Fox as a participant observer, considers bioethics as a social and cultural phenomenon. This project has three ways of describing of bioethics; the historical description of bioethics, the analysis of ethos of bioethics, and the analysis of society. This analysis of society has the potential to explore bioethics sociologically.
