A case of a cementifying fibroma of the mandibular bone is reported. A 28-year-old male patient visited our hospital with swelling of the mandibular body on the right side. The biopsy specimen showed a cementifying fibroma and this lesion was treated by extirpation under general anesthesia. No recurrence has been noted for about 9 months after the operation.
Cementifying fibroma is one of the rare tumors of the jaws. In 33 cases of odontogenic tumors which we experienced between 1988 and 1992 at our department, this cementifying fibroma case was the only one (3.0 %). The plain x-ray showed the radiolucent lesion with no evidence of internal radiopacities, despite the tumor reaching the inferior border of the mandible and being remarkably expanded on the buccolingual side. This means the tumor was clinicopathologically in the late stage. We reviewed 37 cases of cementifying fibroma in Japan reported between 1988 and 1992, only two cases (6.7 %) presented x-ray and clinicopathological features similar to our case.
