As a consequence of radical operation of the maxillary sinus according to the Caldwell-Luc method, the bone defect remained in the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus. After the operation, the scar tissue invaded into the maxillary sinus from the bone defect. The invaded scar tissue caused some complications. To prevent the invasion of the scar tissue, in 11 patients, the bone defect was closed by free reimplantation of the anterior wall bone and the changes of the maxillary sinus were observed by computed tomography. Some years later, the reimplantated bone remained and the scar tissue had not invaded the maxillary sinus. The drainage duct into the lower nasal cavity remained, and the walls of the maxillary sinus had retracted. The reclosure of the bone defect in the anterior wall prevented the invasion of the scar tissue and enhanced favorable healing of the maxillary sinus.
