アルジネート印象材を用いた口底部粘液貯留嚢胞の処置法の有用性

Surgery has been the most common treatment for mucous retention cyst of minor salivary glands, but occasional recurrence is observed after operation.
Alginate impression material has been used during surgery as an aid for defining the margins of lesions.
The purpose of this study was to assess the usefulness of alginate impression material for treatment of mucous cyst of the oral floor, focusing particularly on whether it is possible to sterilize and whether it can harden sufficiently for practical use, and the rate of lesion recurrence after use and nonuse thereof.
Three commercially available alginate impression materials were sterilized by ethylene oxide gas, and sterilization retarded the hardening in comparison with unsterilized materials. When the mucous contents were exchanged by alginate impression paste, the recurrence rate was diminished remarkably. The results indicated that alginate impression paste clearly delineates a mucous cyst from the surrounding normal tissue and tends to stabilize the soft tissues, making operation easier. This exchange method was found to be clinically useful.
