Oral manifestations of two patients with idiopathic hypoparathyroidism were evaluated after administration of vitamin D3 for ten years. One patient had enamel hypoplasia on the bilateral premolars of the maxilla and mandible. The other patient showed shortened roots and thickening of the lamina dura of the mandibular molars by radiographic examination.
The onset of hypocalcemia could be surmised from these findings. Neither anomalies of the maxillofacial bone nor delay development of the extremities could be observed. It was considered that continuous low levels of parathyroid hormone did not effect the development of teeth after administration of vitamin D3 because the dental anomalies were localized completely in the specific teeth.
