To investigate the effects of slope angle and shape on reaching distance of a rock and rock group, the present study conducted two-dimensional discrete element simulation. The results are summarized as follows. The velocity ratio of a rock does not depend on the slope angle and shape, but it depends on the incident angle of a rock. In the case of the simulation of a rock, the reaching distance peak in about 30 - 50 degrees. And the relationship between slope angle and rock velocities at foot of slope obtained by DEM simulation in the case of straight slope shows good agreement with the calculation results using formula described in RockFall Countermeasures Manual. In the case of the simulation of rock group, the reaching distance peak in about 60 degrees.
