This study investigated the applicability of displacement index to evaluate shear failure process of RC beams. First, the relationship between shear failure process such as shear crack initiation, stirrup yielding and shear capacity and local displacement such as the change of cross section height and axial displacement at compression failure zone were investigated from the experimental results. It was clarified that the displacement indexes are applicable to evaluate not only shear capacity but also shear failure process. Then, the applicability of the displacement indexes in Finite Element Analysis was also investigated and it was confirmed that the displacement index was useful to evaluate shear failure process. Finally, the possibility to apply the change of cross section width as new displacement index was presented based on 3 dimensional behavior.
