To investigate the causes of horizontal cracking in deteriorated road bridge slab, finite element analysis was conducted focusing on the bending behavior of reinforcing bars directly beneath the applied load. This analysis assumed that the reinforcing bars within the concrete influence cracking. The analysis model was constructed using solid elements, including the reinforcing bars, and its validity was evaluated by reproducing past experimental results. The analysis confirmed that, similar to the experiments, the bending behavior of the reinforcement influenced cracking. Using the same methodology, analyses were performed with varying slab thicknesses, confirming that increasing the slab thickness reduces the strain affecting internal cracking.
