The number of bridges damaged by severe natural disasters is increasing, highlighting the need for rapidly deployable emergency bridges to restore traffic networks. The authors have studied a scissors-type emergency bridge with a deployable mechanism in its main structure. While previous reinforcement methods improved load capacity, they required manual installation on-site. This study proposes a novel foldable panel bridge with scissors mechanisms integrated into both the main frame and reinforcement members. This foldable system enhances stiffness and load capacity; and performance improvements were found to depend on the stiffness ratio between members.
