Abstract

A coelomic fluid-specific protein (CFSP) was detected in the coelomic epithelium and mesovarium of mature female chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta using an immunohistochemical procedure. Histological observation revealed that the inner surface of the coelomic wall and lateral side of the mesovarium consisted of ciliated columnar epithelial cells. CFSP was localized in the cytoplasm of these epithelial cells. Especially, intensive immunoreaction to antiserum against CFSP was observed in the apical portion of the cytoplasm. It is thought that CFSP is synthesized and accumulated in the epithelial cells, and then secreted into coelom as a component of coelomic fluid.
