From May, 1942 to August, 1945, the writer was on a duty, as a chemical engineer of Nippon Salt Manufacturing Company, in the salt-works in Hishika District of Kanto-shu, and was in charge of manufacturing technicue in a factory of treating bittern.
According to his experiments in those days, chemical composition of the bittern, produced in the solar-salt-field, has some connections with weather conditions, that is the temperature, the rainfall and the evaporation of water.
And the bittern, produced in the spring, has an unusual type of chemical composition, but that, produced in the autumn has a ordinary chemical composition. The works were carried out by the kind guidance of prof. M. Tshibashi, Kyoto: University, to whom the writer expreses his hearty thanks.
