Information on the relative contributions of various types of hydrocarbon pollution sources is required by pollution control strategists.
Factor analysis was applied to hydrocarbons pollution which was reported in our emvironmental survey in the SAKAI littoral industrial and suburban area. As a result, four common factors were obtained from 20 variable data. These were; automobilies, two large factories in the SAKAI littoral industrial area and a photochemical factor. Further, a statistical estimation of the relative contributions of various types of hydrocarbon pollution sources was obtained from the results of the factor analysis.
