Abstract
In a greenhouse in Niigata prefecture, Japan, abnormal enlargement of strawberry fruits was observed and then a kind of mushroom grew from the soil near the stimulated fruits. We identified the mushroom as Agrocybe praecox. On the other hand, it has been reported that an Agrocybe sp. caused cringing of strawberry fruits. Those phenomena suggest that Agrocybe genus produces plant growth regulator(s). Our purpose is to search the plant-growth regulator(s) from Agrocybe praecox. Culture broth of Agrocybe praecox was successively partitioned between EtOAc and water, and then n-BuOH and water. Each fraction was tested to plant growth regulatory assay using lettuce and the EtOAc-soluble part showed significant inhibitory activity. The EtOAc-soluble part was fractionated by repeated chromatography, being guided by the result of the bioassay. This led to the isolation of seven active compounds. The structures of those compounds were determined by spectroscopic analyses. Some of them were synthesized. Bioassay of the compounds is in progress.
