The optimum temperature for regrowth after longer rest period was rather high (day-night temp., 25-20°C or 30-25°C), but it became lower as the rest period was shortened ; 17-12°C when cut at weekly intervals. This may be related to a greater distribution of dry matter, nitrogen and TAC into the stubble and roots, to a higher nitrogen concentration and greater specific leaf weight in the regrown leaves, and to lower respiration loss under lower temperatures than under higher temperatures.
