Human milk negative to the Arakawa reaction is generally B-avitaminotic milk as shown by a number of papers from our laboratory. Viewed from the chlorine content of milk, the Arakawa-neg-ative milk shows an essentially higher content of chlorine. Though there is no literature concerning the chlorine content of B-avitaminotic human milk, T. Chiba found an essentially higher chlorine content in the milk of 5 B-avitaminotic cows. It is very probable that, viewed from the chlorine content, the Arakawa-negative human milk will pass for a B-avitaminotic milk even to the exclusion of other points of view.
