Vitacamphor, prepared from the urine of dogs poisoned with camphor and much used as cardiotonica in this country, was tested as to whether it is capable of causing an accelerated secretion of epine-phrine when administered to a dog without narcotizing, fastening or laparotomizing. The epinephrine was measured by means of the rab-bit intestine segment.
The drug was given hypodermically or intravenously. So far as the dose was large enough as to elicit convulsions and enormous eleva-tion in the arterial blood pressure, a very quick pulse, etc., the epine-phrine output rate was also accelerated in correspondence with the above symptoms in time relation, but the acceleration was not so ex-cessive. The blood sugar content was measured also to increase, and this continued long.
