Abstract
In this study, uncoupled analysis has been conducted to evaluate the impact resistance of multi-layer coatings. At first, high strain-rate simulation was conducted by ANSYS. Then the results of stress and strain histories were input in the damage analysis program which integrates the elasto-viscoplastic damage constitutive equation based on continuum damage mechanics. Both results of tensile fracture analysis and drop impact analysis has almost agreed well with the corresponding experimental results. The uncoupled analysis method for dynamic damage mechanics problems can be expected to be used as an efficient computational tool for the evaluation and the design of multi-layer coatings.
