Abstract
We examined the relationship between executive functional levels in sixty-five diabetic patients and their self-care behaviors. We used the Japanese version of the Behavioral Assessment of Dysexecutive Syndrome (BADS) to assess the executive function. The Japanese version of the "Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities Measure" (J-SDSCA) was employed for the assessment of self-care behaviors. Although no correlation was noted between the patients BADS and J-SDSCA scores, negative correlations were observed between the Rule Shift Cards/Action Program Tests and J-SDSCA scores. A negative correlation was noted between the Temporal Judgment Test scores and HbA1c levels. A part of the result of the executive function was related with both the positive and negative aspects of the self care behaviors. Therefore, there is no problem for those patients un whom the executive functional level decreased, but who became accustomed to self-care behavir. However, when the behavior modification required changing the method of treatment, it is assumed that it is probably difficult for patients to modify their behavior.
