Abstract
In this paper, we propose a theoretical project that combines neoclassical sociology that aims theoretical generalization of classical traditions in sociology, with interpretive formalization that focuses on typology as the method of theory construction. The purpose of the combination is to enhance communication between mathematical sociology and non-mathematical theories through the medium of qualitative case study. In order to show a concrete example, we explore classical role theory to find a point for interpretive formalization, and construct a model that clarifies a latent process behind the conceptual typology of roles. Moreover, we extend the model by including the issue of social order, and apply it for a case study of international relationship, so that we can discuss the possibility of theoretical generalization from dynamic viewpoints.
