Abstract
This paper examined the relationship between job search methods and work environment. The results are as follows. (1)Personal network, especially kin network, enables them to access workplaces which provide opportunity of development of vocational ability, flexibility for needs and job stability; (2)The effect of ‘Institutional Linkage’ (school’s job placement) is indirect, but the effect on flexibility is statistically significant; (3)Network effect is larger in case that they change their jobs or they are high-school-educated/less.
These results imply blood relationships screen job information in Japanese youth labor market. This function seems to have relevance to strength of tie and contact’s social position. Besides, there seems to be information and support that are not transmitted by school. Further study is necessary to find out structure and function of social network and ‘Institutional Linkage’ on transition studies.
