Abstract

Formerly we proposed new transform image coding employing variable-shape-blocks, which can diminish considerably blocking-effects and the mosquito noise. This paper describes a method to improve further image quality by controlling adaptively allowed distortion for each transform coefficient based on spatial frequency response of both the corresponding basis-function and the human visual system.
