Abstract

For the last few years the iterated function systems (IFS) has been extensively studied in the world of computer graphics. Moreover, recently A.E.Jacquin have first applied the IFS to the problem of image compression. The method is based on the principle which is completely different from that of the other existing waveform image coding techniques, and hence the IFS-based method have received much interest. The work herein, from the stand-point of its pratical applications to compression of still/moving images, experimentally studies the IFS-based method, particularly focusing on the block classification method.
