Effect of Noise on Particle Counting by Digital Image Processing

Abstract

Welding characteristics of stainless steel largely depends upon the number of ferrite particles contained in the alloy. Particle counting error introduced by random noise is examined using a simulated microscopic image. Better result is obtained with digital image processing as compared with direct view counting.
