Effects of VDT Display Capability on Reading Speed

Abstract

The effects of VDT display capability on reading speed were studied. Two kinds of displays with different display capability (813 pixels/horizontal line, 1024 pixels/horizontal line) were used. The subjects read 1100-1300 words from each display 4 times. Four character sizes that are 10,9,8,7 points were used. Reading speed was significantly faster from the higher display capability VDT when the character size was 8 or 7 points.
