DVD-Video format of DVD-ROM, which realizes new video-oriented applications and their players, is a layered set of specifications, Physical, File System, and Video. DVD-Video applications feature (1) high qualities of MPEG2 video and digital surround audio, (2) Seamless Splicing of MPEG2 Program streams, and (3) flexible Playback Controls for Highly interactive titles. Because of these features, effective developments of the DVD-Video applications require a totally integrated authoring system. This paper describes an introduction of the format and an example of the authoring system.
