A Daily eight-hours HDTV broadcasting servce is available in Japan using BS-3b. Rcently, HDTV programs are used not only for a daily broadcasting but also for various non-broadcasting uses, such as film prduction. Today' s video production industry makes extensive use of special effects. Therefore, it is natural that these technologies will continue to be used as we move into the next era of HDTV systems. Toshiba has developed the world's first HDTV 3-demensional digital picture effect HPE-1000. This paper describes this equipment.
