Pearls are constructed of numerous thin layers, which are considered as being formed one layer a day. This opinion seems to be supported by several physiological and ecological daily rhythmic phenomena found in pearl-oysters such as daily variations in oxygen consumption, in glycogen content, and in distance of displacement per unit time, which are reported in this paper.
