Abstract
A histopathological observation on the lesion of peripheral nervous tissue of vitamin A deficient rats has been performed. Marked degenerative changes of nerve fibers were demonstrated specifically in cornea. Slight vacuolar degeneration and decrease of Nissl substance were observed in neuron somas of trigeminus ganglion, spinal ganglia and spinal cord. Degenerative changes of motor neurons were not extended to the endplates, whereas moderate destruction of sensory ending was observed.
