Abstract
The biosynthetic activity of protein-bound lipoic acid in liver mitochondria and the level of total lipoic acid in liver homogenate were not affected in riboflavin deficient rats. In a pyridoxine deficient state, the biosynthetic activity of bound lipoic acid and the level of total lipoic acid were decreased markedly, and the reduction of the biosynthetic activity was paralleled to the decrease in GOT activity of liver homogenate. But the biosynthetic activity was not improved when pyridoxine or pyridoxal phaphate was added in vitro to liver mitochondria of pyridoxine deficient rat. In a recovery state following the oral administration of pyridoxine, the biosynthetic activity of bound lipoic acid was recovered in a few week.
