Abstract
Treatment of retinoic acid in cyclohexane with 74%-sulfuric acid, followed by dilution with water, gave a fluorescent product which was extracted with cyclohexane, showing maxima at 333mμ in the excitation spectrum and at 425mμ in the emission spectrum. The fluorescent product was shown to be stable to heat, though very labile to light. The fluorescence intensity was completely proportional to the concentration of retinoic acid (0.2-100.0μg). Therefore, this method will be available for the determination of retinoic acid.
