In order to examine the teratogenicity of O, S-dibenzoyl thiamine, O, S-dibenzoyl thiamine hydrochloride (DBT-HCl) was administered orally to pregnant Wistar rats at daily doses of 300,100,30 or 10mg/kg for 11 days from day 7 of pregnancy. All animals were sacrificed one day before the expected date of delivery and examined for intrauterine mortality of the conceptive, fetal body weight, and external, skeletal and visceral abnormalities. No deleterious effects of DBT-HCl upon the development of embryos and fetuses were encountered.
