Abstract
Niacin compounds were extracted from hog liver and kidney with ethanol at the final concentration of 70%. The extracted compounds were separated into each compound by paper chromatography using various solvent systems. Each compound was identified by comparing its Rf value with that of authentic compound and various specific reactions. The isolated compounds were determined by microbiological assay with Lactobacillus arabinosus 17-5. The results obtained in liver and kidney indicated a similar pattern. Detected compounds were as follows in the order of the amount ; NiANH_2,NAD, NADP, NiA, NMN, d-NAD and NaMN. But QA and MNA were not detectable. NiANH_2 content was extremely high at the level of 80% of the total niacin compounds detected. NiANH_2 is thought to be a reserved precursor compound for the NAD biosynthesis. Total amount of niacin compounds per 100g of each organ was calculated as 58μmol in liver and 37μmol in kidney.
