Vitamin K dependent γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla)-containing proteins (BGP) were purified from vitamin D deficient and normal chick femur cortical bones and the effect of vitamin D on their properties were observed. Between vitamin D deficient and normal chick BGP, there was no significant difference in amino acid composition, Ca^<2+> binding activity and inhibitory effect on crystallization of hydroxyapatite in vitro. These results suggest that the properties of BGP are not influenced by vitamin D.
