Stimulation of Branched-chain Amino acids Metabolism by L-Ornithine and L-Arginine : The Changes in Serum Glucose, Free Fatty Acids and Hormones and Urinary Urea Concentrations

Abstract

Urinary excretion of urea was increased appreciably, but blood glucose and free fatty acid concentrations decreased significantly, and while serum branched-chain amino acids were marked decreased, when L-ornithine-HCl or L-arginine-HCl was administered orally to healthy human subjects. The effects of L-ornithine and L-arginine might be due to a promotion of utilization of these amino acids in peripheral tissues.
