Abstract
A solvent extraction procedure with phenol-butanol for purifying vitamin B_<12> was studied. The extraction of vitamin B_<12> and B_<12>, from water solution increased with increase in the concentration of phenol in the solvent Change in pH had almost no effect on the extraction of vitamin B_<12>, while that of vitamin B_<12> grew lower with decrease of pH. Vitamin B_<12> could be recovered from the solvent phase by extracting with water and ether, benzene, or carbontetracholoride. The mixed solvents of phenol 40-60 g per 100 ml of butanol were capable to extract vitamin B_<12> in satisfactory yields with a high selectivity.
