Abstract
Synthesis of vitamin B_<12> by Streptomyces hachijoensis, capable of producing a new antibiotic trichomycin, was studied. Addition of CoCl_2 to the culture medium increased the synthesizing capacity by 3.0-3.2 times, and 29-32μg/100 cc (Lactobacillus leickmannii value) was obtained by the shaking flask culture and 20-23μg/100 cc by the tank culture. Trichomycin and vitamin B_<12> are contained in mycelium, but during the extraction of trichomycin, the vitamin passes into waste liquor so that the latter may be used as a source material for isolation of the vitamin.
