Abstract
For determining carotene in feces, the use of alumina is not appropriate, because the carotene fraction contains non-carotene pigment which causes too high carotene values. Calcium hydroxide is adequate. The suitable procedure for this purpose was described. Saponification is not necessary for determining carotene alone.
