Abstract
The effects of sardine, viscera of fish, fish meal and soy bean cake as nitrogen sources for the industrial production of riboflavin by Eremothecium ashbyii were investigated. 1) Extract of sardine meal with 2% caustic soda or hydrolysate of the substance with 2% hydrochloric acid was more suitable when supplemented with corn steep liquor than peptone alone for the production of riboflavin by the fungi. 2) The growth promoting effect of viscera of mackerel was so powerful that no additional growth factor was required. 3) Hydrolysate of soy bean cake with diluted hydrochloric acid was suitable for the growth of the fungi, but did not exert and effect on the production of riboflavin.
