Abstract

The author synthesized depsidan (V), and by comparison of the ultraviolet absorption curve of the above substance with that of the decarboxylated compound (XV) of insularic acid obtained by the decomposition of insularine, an alkaloid of Cyclea insularis (Makino) Diels, proved spectrochemically, as well as synthetically, that insularine has the nucleus of depsidan (V) in its molecule.
