Structure of Disodium Isonicotinic Acid Hydrazide-bis (methanesulfonate)

Abstract

Various isonicotinic acid hydrazide derivatives were prepared and their nitrous acid-consumption was measured (cf. Table I). The compounds with more than one hydrogen atom in N²-position and without any acyl group consumed 1 mole of nitrous acid while those with one acyl group or two alkyl groups in N² did not consume any acid. The disodium isonicotinic acid hydrazide-bis (methanesulfonate) (III), reported by Obika, Tsuno-o, and Sasahara, and by Logemann, De Franceschi, and Zamboni, was prepared but (III) did not consume nitrous acid at all. Therefore, it may be assumed that the structure of (III) is 1-isonicotinoyl-2, 2-bis (sodiosulfo-methyl) hydrazine (IIIb).
