Saakova (1952) described the speciesmetatestisunder the genusOpisthotremaPoche (1925) belonging to the family Heterophyidae. Skrjabin and Baschkirova (1956) recognised its echinostomid characters and erected a new genusSaakotremafor the reception of the speciesmetatestis. The joint authors assignedSaakotrema metatesisto subfamily Echinochasminae Odhner, 1911. Recently Pande (1960) has describedBrijicola caballeroicollected fromEgretta garzetta (Linnaeus) at Mathura and assigned his new genus and species to the family Acanthocolpidae.
The present author collected on 20th January, 1954, two trematodes ref erferrable to the genusSaakotremafrom the intestine of the common pond heron, Ardeola grayii (Sykes) at Allahabad. As will appear from the discussion given at the end of this paper the genusBrijicolaPande (1960) is a synonym ofSaakotremaSkrjabin & Baschkirova (1956) and henceBrijicola caballeroiobtains the nameSaakotrema caballeroin.comb.
