Abstract
A total of seventy-three patients with degenerative lumbosacral diseases were investigated for their physical symptoms and quolity of life (QOL). We studied prospectively the efficacy of an analgesic drug (loxoprofen-sodium) against the physical symptoms and QOL. Outcome of this conservative treatment for degenerative lumbosacral diseases was excellent in seventeen, good in thirty-eight, fair in nine, and poor in nine patients. Patients with low back pain had stiff neck and headache more frequently than other physical symptoms. Stiff neck and headache were improved together with an improvement in low back pain. Therewas statistically positive correlation between improvements of low back pain and stiff neck (p< 0.001). QOL in degenerative lumbosacral diseases was poor for anxiety about their diseases, depression and difficulty in sex life. These anxiety and depression were improved together with an improvement in low back pain by the treatment with loxoprofen-sodium.
