Total Synthesis of (+)-Scholarisine A

Abstract

(+)-Scholarisine A(1), a akuammiline alkaloid that was first isolated in 2008 from the leaves of Alstonia scholaris, comprises an unprecedented scaffold containing a bridged lactone inscribed in a cagelike skeleton. Structural and biological features of 1 have attracted much attention from synthetic chemists. In this review, total synthesis of 1 reported by Smith’s group and Snyder’s group are described.
