The recent advances and trends in the synthesis of useful organofluorine compounds have been reviewed. This article is especially focused on the utility of commercially available fluorine-containing products as building block.Topics are discussed in the following four items : (1) introduction of fluoroalkyl groups in organic molecules using halofluorocarbons, (2) functionalization of fluorine-containing olefins, (3) ring-opening reaction of fluorocyclopropanes to give fluorobutadienes or ketones, and (4) carbon-carbon bond forming reaction of fluorine-containing carbonyl compounds.
