Heavy-weight floor impact sources should have the characteristic of being generated in everyday life by children jumping and running. It is therefore necessary to enable measurement and evaluation sufficiently for the dynamic performance of floor structures with regard to this form of actual impact source. On impulsive force characteristics, the impact frequency of impact sources is especially important, and in order to efficiently reflect the effects of peripheral constraints caused by beams to the measurement result of a floor slab vibration in a manner which corresponds to the actual impact source, it is necessary to maintain the impact time of the impact source to approximately 20 ms or more.

This report introduces development of a drainage system equipped with special fitting inside buildings and verification of permissible drain flow rate in the system by adapting to an existing building design as follows. (1)The basic performance of the fitting is obtained making maximum negative pressure in drain pipe and air velocity in stack vent pipe as indexes through an experiment at 10 floors high tower. (2)The permissible drain flow rate is defined by giving steady and fixture drain flows from multiple floors. (3)The verification test of permissible drain flow rate is conductted by using the drainage system in super-high rise apartment.

The natural bank of the Shokoji River in Sado was changed into concrete structure in 1978 except the upper part of the Temple. Interviews with citizens have made clear that there are 68 points of immediate contact with the river. The authors classified them into 7 categories: controlling flood, daily house work, farming, playing, festival, ecology, and waterscape. These contacts were made possible by the make of the river bank. Citizens' responses are concrete and present important sources for application in a small river in a town.

Recently, in order to resolve bio-function and to make diagnosis, it becomes popular to measure weak magnetic fields from brain by using SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) magnetometer with extremely higher sensitivity. For the fundamental study of the brain, a new 19-channel SQUID magnetometer system, which would be easy to operate and less expensive than the commercial base systems consisting of multi-channel SQUID sensors with the first order gradiometers and a magnetically shielded room with higher shielding factor of over 1000, has been developed. The total hardware system consists of 19 sensors with the second order gradiometers, readout elecronics, a liquid helium dewar, a gantry and a prefabricated magnetically shielded room (PMSR). By using PMSR with moderate shielding factor of around 20 and the second order gradiometers, magnetic noise which is low enough for measuring brain fields can be achieved. In this paper, first, design concepts of PMSR and a gantry developed as a peripheral equipment of this system are explained. Second, the magnetic shielding effect, electromagnetic shielding effect and evaluation on the magnetic noise due to vibration of the shielded room and gantry are discussed.

Nation wide inquiry was carried out in order to obtain public opinion and the actual state concerning house lighting. The results are shown as follows. 1) There were two types of rooms, a single purpose one and a multipurpose one. 2) Although people have, to a certain, a pre concept of what suitable lighting for the situation should be, many of them chose stereotyped methods such as ceiling light, and did not change the lighting method for different situations. 3) As for the respondents' personal preferences, yearly income was related to the number and types of lighting equipment. 4) Despite satisfaction with the present state, many people desired that the interior lighting be comfortable. 5) Awareness for energy conservation was relatively high.

The composition of Digital Still Camera that utilize Charge Coupled Device (CCD) imagers closely resembles that of the human eye. They can be effective in reproducing the luminance distribution perceived within one's eyesight. This paper reports on studies conducted for measurement of luninance distribution utilizing Digital Still Cameras, and the evaluations on light environment applying the resultant data.

Design approach of air-conditioning system is described for a large indoor stadium project. Displacement ventilation using task air supply system is adopted to minimize air conditioning space which is expected to contribute energy savings. Dack surface of the fixed seats is used to control air distribution around spectators. Exhaust air is sucked from the roof vent where wind help to make negative pressure by airfoil effect. Full-sized model is used to decide the optimum shape of the seats, and to confirm human comfort conditions of the system. In this paper, we report the study process and results of the experiments.

This paper reports our study on the most desirable operation modes of air-conditioning system. The Kansai International Airport Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) is a gigantic structure of 290,000 m total floor area served by 305 air-conditioning systems in total. We prospected an enormous energy demand, but from our simulation analysis, we could find that maintaining the energy conservation and service level required can coexist if air-conditioning operation mode is carefully selected on each PTB operation. In order to accomplish this, however, a new most desirable operation controlling system will be needed, so we studied its prospective fundamental organization and functions.

The Moniwadai Horei Home was planned in Sendai city as part of a comprehensive welfare project. As a combined facility, the Horei Home cares for patients suffering from senile dementia as well as general elderly patients. The facility adopts a circular style around a courtyard to offer a space where patients can stroll. Recently we planned to establish a special facility as an annex to Moniwadai Home. The facility with 50 beds is for people who suffer from rather serious senile dementia. It also provides day-care service in order to support the families of the victims of senile dementia.

The requirement for comfortable life in condominium is steadily increasing. This is largely caused by development of building equipment and change of sense of values for condominium. It is necessary to grasp general condition of condominium. But there is no published deta about the present condition of condominium. The purpose of this study is to fill up basic infomation for planning of condominium. In this study we surveyed the tendency of plan and building system of present condominium, by collecting catalogues of condominium, which were sold in 1992 in Tokyo metropolitan area.

First, we selected the place where had characteristic features of improvemented shopping street whole the country and analyzed its detailes. Second, we investigated the making use of object in expressing methods of improvement and made clear its trends. As a result, we classified both methods of improvement and its expression, and we cleared that increasing of method of "out of consideration of regionally". It is necessary for realization of characteristic shopping street to plan rightly of method of "construct".

Pre-fireproofing in a unit floor method employed at construction sites is considered to greatly enhance the efficiency of site work. This paper relates to investigation at work sites where this method was developed and applied. Investigation results were also used for comparison with a conventional method and analysis of improvement items aiming at labor saving. Of the various improvements achieved, labor reduction is espechially apparent in ducting and piping work. Evaluation per type of work was made by the management items which were labelled Q, C, D, S, E, and M (quality, cost, delivery, safety, environment and mind)

This report presents a summary of the architecutural manual books that were written before the early part of the 17th century. Those old records were handed down to the recent years by the KOBAYASHIS who were inaugurated as the DAIKUTORYO that was the post for the authorized carpenters in SYONAI-HAN. Their descriptions were about the architectural techniques to all kinds of architectures and the architectural formalities, so they were important to study Japanese Middle Ages architectures. Among those architectural techniques, this report presents especially the systems of TOKYO as the one of the important parts of the Japanese traditional architectures.
