To obtain basic reference data for a cost-effective, environmentally friendly and useful recycle system, simulations centering on the replacement of an existing thermal power plant as a model case were conducted. As a result, the relationship among the recycled aggregate concrete parameters, including its recycling method, the resultant cost, and the environmental influence, were confirmed, showing that the recycled aggregate and recycled aggregate concrete could be used.

This paper mentions that the use of dry aggregate allows concretes become lighter and stronger, with the properties equivalent or better in comparison with ordinary lightweight concretes currently in use, and that the method of using dry aggregate is also effective in the use of ultra-lightweight artificial aggregate which is still lighter than current artificial lightweight aggregate.

A concrete fill monitor has been newly developed utilizing the electric conductivity of concrete. A measurement electrode is placed at a location where concrete must be filled and a reference electrode is placed nearby in fresh concrete confirmed to be filled. Low voltage is applied to the electrodes, proper fill is confirmed when the resistance value of the measurement electrode matches that of the reference electrode. The basic experiments for development of this system and examples of application in RC containment vessel construction work and precast concrete members production are reported.

This report describes the interior finishing system to prevent hospital infections. This system's finishing materials have an antibacterial activity and chemical resistance, and are easy to clean, First, their efficiencies were evaluated by three laboratory tests. Next, a field test was carried out by putting them to practical use. Finally, to check the durability of the antibacterial agent, the materials were washed, and subject to UV rays and abrasions. Then their antibacterial activities were evaluated. As the result, the durability of the antibacterial agent, and the effectiveness of this test method in evaluating the durability (of this agent) were confirmed.

The wind pressure differences across the exterior panels which were attached to concrete walls using non-sealed joints were measured on windy days. The air spaces between the exterior panels and the concrete walls are partioned in order to interrupt the air flow. Measurements confirmed that the 10-min. average wind loads on the exterior panels were nearly zero and the fluctuating wind loads on the exterior panels were also smaller than those on the entire wall consists of exterior panels and parapet.

The OAP Towers, opened on March 15,1996, is the project which has complexed facilities including two highrised buildings and D.H.C. It was necessary to study in details on under-ground structure which extends in large scale site. This paper describes about the outline of this project (OAP Towers), and some measurement of subsoil settlement and pile stress.

We developed a method for estimating static pile load-settlement behavior by means of a rapid pile loading test. The rapid loading test is simpler and more cost-effective than conventional static loading test. To obtain static pile behavior, however, the dynamic effect should be subtracted from the rapid test results. We use elasto-plastic finite element model. Soil parameters are identified by matching pile behavior in the analysis to the results of rapid loading test. An example of application of the method to a cast-in-place concrete pile is presented.

An investigation of pile foundation damage in the 1995 Hyogoken-Nambu earthquake is presented. To clarify the degree of damage and effect of pile arrangement, 11 piles were examined with three methods i.e. integrity test, inner observation by borehore camera and lateral displacement measurement by inclinometer. And to correlate the pile damage with soil conditions, a standard penetration test and 11 cone penetration tests were conducted. It was found that the damage to pile foundations was caused by (1) both strong ground shaking and ground failures including liquefaction and lateral spreading, (2) pile arrangement, and (3) local soil conditions.

In concrete filled tubular columns, the mechanism of stress transsmision between the steel tube and concrete has not been clarified. Therefore it is common to attach mechanical stoppers to the inside of the tube. Firstly, we investigated the bearing strength of concrete and backing rings for tubular columns and approximated the ultimate strength. Secondly, we estimated the yield strength (1Py), displacement (1δ) and bearing spring (K) on the surface of one ring whih was weldedinside the column. Finally, we could estimate the yield strength (2Py) and displacement (2δ) by using (1Py) and (K) incase of two rings.

This paper presents objective and subjective evaluations of eight types of side stage enclosures for orchestra performances. Three different methods are applied in this study; the ray tracing computer simulation, the acoustical scale model experiment, and the auditory experiment by pared comparison. Results are as follows: The acoustic characteristics of stage enclosure shapes can be determined by comparing remained and radiated energy within 80 msec. Preferred stage shapes vary interms of the playing, conducting, and listening positions.

Installing outdoor units of air-cooled, separated type packaged air-conditioners in a concentrated way can reduce their cooling capacity and overall efficiency due to a temperature rise in the cooling air caused by a short circuiting of the exhaust air. Systematic reduced scale model experiments were carried out with the aim of relating the geometric configuration of grouped outdoor units to the resultant temperature rise of suction air under stagnant surrounding conditions. Experimental data together with theoretical consideration of a new structure around the outdoor units were summarized into a model equation using two parameters. Observed peak temperature rise of suction air and its spatial distribution were both well reproduced using the prediction method based on the proposed model equation.

Electromagnetic shielding interior finishing method, using an electrodeposited iron foil was developed to obviate electromagnetic interference. Even in case of construction an electromagnetic shielded room of actual size using this method, it was found that the performance of the room was nearly as much as that of the material's own. And also, the effect was found in the data of electroencephalograph in case of application of this method to an inspecting room for brain wave as a measure decreasing electromagnetic interference.

Imported House is introduced widely and attractively through mass media, and gets into public favor. However, its popularity isn't from customers side, but by propaganda from supply side. We got investigation result that residents satisfied for its performance but had questions for its maintenance. This report analyzes the actual condition on the basis of the investigation from the residents of Imported Houses, clarifys its substance and gives suggestions as to the future of Imported House.

The living space with a movable floor has not only the fixed floor but the movable floor which stops at the upper position or at the lower position. One room is used for two kinds of uses. The purpose of the development of this system is to realize a movable living space which is corresponding to present-day needs, comfortable, efficient, and safe. The characteristic of this system is the free choice of the room use which the resident wants at all times. The another characteristic is the economic effect because this space can be used twice.

Our research staffs developed the Visual Simulator system which is composed of five parts. These are as follows. Operation input part transmits the subject's operation to the personal-computer as the data. Drive control part transmits the operation data to the motors. Models shooting part shoots the architectural model space by the CCD camera. Background shooting part shoots background by the CCD camera, synchronizing with models shooting part. Animation composition part composites the image from models shooting part and background shooting part.
